From Darkness to Light - The Journey of a Bumbling Christian

I have resurrected a book that I started writing a couple of years ago. It is sort f a spiritual autobiography. It's no A Million Little Pieces , and it won't get me on Oprah, but it is all true. Two things happened that made me stop writing the book. The first was that it didn't have an ending. in fact it didn't even have a climax. The second thing - well third was that it didn't flow. It was a choppy bunch of stories that, except for their chronological order, did not work together. Those are good reasons to stop writing - well that, and I don't know what the heck I am doing. The good news is that God knows what He is doing. It doesn't matter if I finish it, or if it even sells. What matters is that he is in control of the process. Next week I am putting together a pre-publish copy for some friends. Some are Christians, and some are not (I am so sneaky). What I know is this, it is collection of testimonies; a bunch of vignettes from my life in Christ, ...

Fire & Grace - Greatest Hits

As I watch my readership grow, primarily due to Facebook, but also from referrals from blogs that I follow (thanks everyone!), I realized there is a growing responsibility to provide context for my blogs. It is virtually impossible to list every possible scripture that pertains to a specific topic. Sometimes there are not specific scriptures, but Biblical principals as they are embodied in the Biblical canon. IE: The trinity, or relationship. So, here is what I believe: -1 The basics of Christianity - The Nicene Creed -2 The basics of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit -3 I believe that miracles and healing are a great way for folks to realize that Jesus is real. -4 Things happen as a result of God's presence, not as a result of religion. -5 There is a significant misunderstanding of the spiritual gifts, offices and roles of the elect. -6 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. Matthew 11:12 KJV -7 That rock ...

Who Is Jesus? - He is Everything!

In 1998 I decided to do a little study on Jesus (God) and His names and attributes. I was inspired by a speaker that I heard and a poster that I saw in Brazil which had about 15 names. Understanding the nature of God is essential for becoming what God meant for us to be. Here are 650+ that I was able to find. I once preached a sermon on "He is Everything," and for the last 20 minutes I simply read this list out loud. I found it very powerful. abounding in goodness and truth (Ex. 34:6) acquainted with grief (Isa. 53:3) Adam, the last (1 Cor. 15:45) Advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1) all (Col. 3:11) Almighty, the (Job 5:17; 1:8) Alpha (Rev. 1:8; 21:6) Amen, the (Rev. 3:14) Ancient of Days, the (Dan. 7:22) anointed (Ps. 2:2; Acts 4:27) Apostle and High Priest of our confession (Heb. 3:1) author and finisher of our faith, the (Heb. 12:2) author of eternal salvation, the (Heb. 5:9) banner to the people, a (Isa. 11:10) Beginning of the creation of God, the (Rev...

Treasure - What Are We Storing Up?

Living life in America, and a number of other countries, isn't always peaceful and fulfilling. I am not down on America, I am just thinking about other things today. For many of us, we get bogged down in trying to make a living or go to school (or both), friends and family, and a host of other things that we fill our lives with. Recently I was trying to recall some of the thoughts I had during my walk around Walden Pond a few weekends ago. I enjoyed the crisp New England air and the vibrant colors of Fall. There were moments I felt connected with God, enjoying the stillness of the pond-- not a ripple on her surface. There were other moments as I smiled at a passer by, marveled at those swimming in the 50 degree water, enjoyed the interaction of my kids, watched the minute wake of a far-off canoe gliding on the water, and the graceful landing of a blue heron in her favorite fishing spot. Those are times when I just enjoy God as He is. I am not praying or being all religious. I am ju...
