Today is Election Day. After this year's negative attack ads, I am glad it's over! This will be the last Political Tuesday post until the rhetoric reaches a fevered pitch again next Fall. I am voting in Massachusetts. We have local, State and Federal candidates to consider. I have done my best to research the candidates; watched debates, read campaign web sites, listened to a few ads, checked voting records, and ignored gloom and doom: Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Keith Olberman and John Stewart. As always, it bothers me to vote for questionable character or worse questionable character - but I am going to do it regardless of the quality of the choices! How we vote here, particularly for Congressional and Senatorial candidates affects you! How you vote, not just in the US, affects me. Please pray, research and get out there! It's Primary Day here in Massachusetts. On the coattails of Scott Brown's overthrow of the Kennedy Monarchy, there are, in fact; Republicans running in every Congressional District! It wasn't' long ago that many Democrats and few Independents ran unopposed as Bay Stater's were lulled to sleep by government over indulgence and the housing bubble. I am NOT a Republican, I am NOT a TEA Party advocate and I am NOT a conservative, but I do like to see a good political race. I don't think my friends in either party find me very predictable. I have changed my voting strategy in the last decade. As a Christian, it used to be important to me if someone was part of the fray. It's a little shallow, I know. As I look back, I still would have supported G. W. Bush, but much more because Al Gore and John Kerry fall way short of my religious and political ideals - and they still do. Let me add, I thought there were better choices in the presidential primary last time ...

As my friendship with Tony C grows, I am jealous-- he just reached his 100th blog, and I am few behind for '09 anyway. Secretly, the more I write, the more I want to be like him. He's funny, relevant, and has the nerve to take his wife to Hooters. Well, he posted 10 issues that were important to him, and I thought I would do the same for my un-birthday celebration. But I needed to out do him, so I have 11. :) 1) Family - I think the greatest life one can have is to be part of a family with a mother and father, children and extended family. It is the model of the church in its fullness. It is great place to learn to love one another as He has loved us. 2) Parenting - I think kids need to be parented until they get married. They need to be taught how to dress, save, tithe, make friends, say no, have fun, work, serve God and be a friend. That's our job if we have kids.
