The School of the Pastor

This weekend we ran another segment of the 5-Fold School of Ministry. This time we focused on pastoring. Stephen and Dalene Russell, here in the US as missionaries from South Africa, did an amazing job. Stephen's main scripture was the 23 Psalm, and for 3 sessions he broke it down to the elements of true shepherding. Here is the outline. I believe that you'll find some of the Americanized pastoral roles missing. Personally, I find that refreshing.. Apostolic Reform

I have written many times about issues in the church, but today I want to offer some solutions for free! You may download a copy of my book. How good/pertinent is my book? Well, I'd love for you to have a copy and give me some feed back. But before you do, here is what my friend Mark had to say. David is part of a emerging generation of Equippers. Apostolic Reform takes a look at the 5-fold ministry with fresh eyes. The book opens the conversation about the importance for New Testament churches and leadership models. This book is a good introduction to the reformation happening in the Ecclesia at this hour. The focus of the book is the Body being equipped and coming forth to fulfill her destiny. I recommend that all believers read this book at allow it to challenge you toward a fuller understanding of Apostolic Reformation and Kingdom living. - Sr. Leader Village Church, NH They say a picture paints a thousand words; likewise, without using many wo...

The Pastor - (Part 3 of 7)

For most of us that have attended both protestant and Catholic churches, we are used to a priest or pastor at the helm of our local church. That is the way it should be. However; as we've seen in Ephesians 4:11, there is more to it than that. For our Catholic friends, their priest has the help of deacons, bishops, cardinals and the pope. It has pretty much become a corporate structure at this point in time. I am not sure how all the hierarchy works, but there is one over the other with the pope in the highest position. Our Protestant friends, in most cases, are accustom to a senior pastor, a deacon board, elders and occasionally some sort of self titled apostle (church planter). Outside of the church they may have itinerant evangelists and possibly a prophet. They are almost exclusively para-church organizations, with no real connection to the church. In the end, the pastor most often turns out to be CEO of the local church, and rarely reports to someone above them. Sometimes his e...
