Showing posts with the label Poor

Perspective: Left or Right?

The fodder for many of my blogs come from behavior that I observe, and posts on social media sites. Today I had one with a fellow that identified himself as very LEFT. As an independent, I occasionally agree with the lefties on issues - like getting off foreign oil and renewable energy - but I think Global Warming is a buffoonery. And of course I agree with the righties when it comes to smaller less intrusive government, pro-life and similar issues. Here is Lefty's post: " Personally, I can't stand right-wingers of ANY stripe, though the "religious" hypocrite American variety particularly annoy me. What kind of Christian robs the poor to enrich the wealthy? Lets people die in the street for lack of health care? Has a death penalty in the Age of Grace? The list goes on and on.... they arrest over half a million people for the "crime" of smoking pot (smoking a flower!), yet allow the Madoffs of the world to rob and plunder with wild abandon. Happy Boxing Day . . .

. . . Or Happy I Ate Too Much Yesterday Day; depending on where you are from. The sizzle of Christmas is over for most of us. The heightened awareness of giving has subsided - there is still a bit of mess in the living room as daughter number 3 has tried to find her favorite Christmas toy - leaving some unfavorites in a pile. She slept with her new American Girl Doll, "Star" and has already put on her first concert for mom and dad. Please hang on as I post a few random thoughts about Christmas and New Year's - eventually I'll make a point. I had prime rib and pecan pie for breakfast - oh and Mary Anne shared her chocolates - a Christmas miracle. The post office never delivered the Christmas gifts I bought online for the older girls. It wouldn't be a big deal, but I only got them one. The Post Office said they tried to deliver them on the 24th and left a notice - they lied. I filed a complaint. Can't wait for their health care to come online. How about you...

Poor? or Poor! - What Is Really Poor?

Did you ever wonder how poor is poor? I can recall the sarcastic tone of some comedian, in the role of a son, where he is arguing with this father and grandfather. The son is vying for dad to buy him a car. The exchange went something like this. "Dad, why do I have to take the bus to school? All my friends drive cars!" The father replies, "Son when I was your age we didn't have buses, we walked 3 miles to school no matter what the weather. I didn't even have my first car until I was out of college." The somewhat senile grandfather decides he can top that story. "When I was kid," he exclaims, "we didn't have legs to get to school on." With the approaching presidential elections, I have engaged a number of serious debates over how we might vote for biblical principals while electing the most powerful person on earth. Don't worry, this blog is not about politics. For more on that, click HERE . The latest discussion started off with t...
