Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh - Making Happy Campers

Happy Campers We've all heard the song "A Letter from Camp." "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh. Here I am at Camp Granada. Camp is very entertaining. And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining." What's it going to take to make us all happy campers in church? I think I have a few ideas - so bear with me as I lay a foundation. The song assumes that the "singer," a child, has two parents, one male and one female. But this blog is not about families - no - it's about church. Presently, in most developed countries, the cultural status of the nuclear family is fractured. There is rampant divorce both in and out of the church, resulting in single parent families, and various other aberrations of the biblical family. Regardless of what the world thinks is politically correct, God has a standard. I am assuming that you have noticed there is a difference between the way males and females act? The healthiest families are meant to have...

5 1/2 Kids, That's What You Are!

I was reading a blog by Matt Appling in which he wrote about parenting. Though he is an awesome school teacher and pastor, it's something he's never done. Instead of becoming a serial commenter on his post (3 or more comments on one post - you know like a serial killer: one that has killed 3 or more people), I decided to finish my thoughts in a blog. Everyone has had some experience with kids. We were once kids, most of us had childhood friends, maybe we are aunts or uncles, and a number of my readers have kids; some grand-kids! There is nothing like being a parent! I like what Dr. Phil says. "we are not raising kids, we are raising adults." That is the part that Matt got right, and articulated in his typical, but gently sarcastic style. What are the barriers to getting kids (and Christians) to grow up? -1 Poop:  That's right, in the hands of an infant, it is tool to control us. You think your done, and then you find out grandpa gav...

Local Mission - Making a Difference at Home

This morning I received a prayer request for a young man that is out partying it up, working part time, and in trouble financially. He is the son of a Christian couple that are church goers, happily married and decent folks. I spent a day last week with another young guy in the same predicament. You can't look at one of of these teenagers/young adults without asking yourself, how does the child of a solid Christian couple become more interested in the ways of the world, than Jesus himself? It is easier to see it, if a kid is the child of divorce where one parent is off in the weeds, while one has a working faith. Kids from single parent families are even more at risk. So why do kids make bad decisions? I have a few ideas. First of all, we are created for real relationship. The lack of healthy relationships is part of the problem for our kids. Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Even after Noah survi...

Father 411 - I Mean 911

Have you ever noticed that folks with kids are easy to spot-- even when the kids are not in tow? You can hear them whistling the theme songs to Winne the Pooh and Scooby Doo on the elevator and in the break-room at work. Of course they'll deny it, and try to come up with a classic rock tune just to prove you wrong. Really? Middle aged men and woman humming the opening riff to Ozzy Osborn's Crazy Train , yeah right, I am not convinced. Non-parents will not have a clue about this - and label it and you "old," with no further ado. Parents, they are usually not the best dressed in line at the grocery store either. I have studied this phenomenon on the Discovery Channel. The real clue is the amount of them that end up with Stacy and Clinton on What Not to Wear . The evolution of the species parenta nurotica is very closely related to daddytodamntired . There are some other mutations within the species including joggasaurus which developed as a defense mechanism against...
